First, because at that time the Republican Party was the political home of the anti-slavery and abolitionist movements in the United States. 

Second, because at that same time the Democratic Party was the center of the pro-slavery movement in this country.

With the climate of our Nation's Capital and the Country today, it appears that these two issues are ever-lingering.

Therefore, it is in the spirit of both President Abraham Lincoln and Mr. Frederick Douglass, that Dr. Myrtle P. Alexander, is a Republican, and very proud to represent the GOP, in the battle for justice.
